Synopsis
Kitty Pryde's father is in hot water with some Japanese businessmen. Things get worse when she stows away on a flight to Tokyo.
Plot Summary
Kitty Pryde is just coming back from a bout of ice-skating (still wearing her pink and black skating outfit). Last week, her teammate and boyfriend, Peter Rasputin aka Colossus, broke up with her. Kitty came to her Dad’s place in Chicago the next day.
When she visits his bank after hours, she phases inside and overhears a tense meeting. A group of Japanese businessmen -- led by the unsettling Ogun -- pressure Carmen Pryde to cooperate with their mysterious "arrangement." Hearing a scuffle, Kitty bursts in, and sees her father's been struck and realizes he’s in serious trouble.
The men insist Carmen fly to Japan immediately to meet their chairman. Ogun even suggests Kitty accompany him, but Carmen forbids it and sends her back to the house instead. Convinced her father is in danger, Kitty ignores his warning. She sneaks onto a Japan-bound flight by hiding in the luggage and later slipping into the passenger cabin, only to be spotted as a stowaway by a stewardess. After landing in Tokyo, she phases out of the plane before authorities can detain her.
Alone in a foreign city, wearing only her skating outfit, Kitty searches for Shigematsu’s corporate office. She breaks into the building during a storm but is discovered by security and forced to flee. Now soaked, freezing, and exhausted, she phases into a bank to "borrow" cash for food and shelter, but panics when the alarm goes off and escapes into the sewers. By morning she’s sick, miserable, and ashamed.
She tries calling the X-Men, but when Wolverine answers she can’t bring herself to explain. Soon she sees her own face on the news and discovers that Tokyo police are hunting her for the attempted robbery. She decides to turn herself in and face the consequences, but wanting to clear things up with her father first, she returns to Shigematsu’s office. While hiding in the next room, Kitty watches in horror as Shigematsu calmly reveals the truth: he expects Carmen Pryde to help launder criminal funds through the family bank. Unable to stay silent, Kitty cries out for her father.
